100cm (w) x 100cm (h) acrylics and paper, original painting on canvas
Exhibiting and living in Florence in 2005 was a very special time for me. Walking the very same streets as the Italian Renaissance figurative masters Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael was a constant thrill. One of my all time favourite painters is another Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli, who painted the famous "Birth of Venus". "Rose Botticelli" is my contemporary interpretation of that classical pose. The Florentine Fleur de Lis emblem, rich golds, luxurious reds and pinks and the elegant rose have been summoned to try and convey an olde worlde but simple elegance. I strive to follow Leonardo's advice: "Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication".
Signed in the lower left corner, the painting is stretched around a timber frame and the outer edges are painted black.
Title, number and signature is hand written on the rear of the canvas by the artist. Ready to hang.
